It is that time of the year again….the festive season is upon us. OM Yoga magazine for December is out and full of great articles.
I admit at this point that I find the whole Christmas thing really rather difficult. When I was a child it was a delightful time and so exciting. Then I grew up and moved to distant lands which did not have shops full of goodies and where the sun shone hard and bright throughout December. We simply enjoyed gathering with friends for a simple day of chatting and eating good food. Wine was a rarity but the beer was good.
We returned to the UK and I rapidly realised that Christmas was a whole different animal. So much to buy, so much to eat and so much expectation placed upon this one day in the year!
The years have passed and I’ve made my peace with Christmas and some of that has come about as a result of inviting yoga into my life all that time ago. This latest edition of OM magazine has some lovely pieces which resonate gently within me.
WINTER VITALITY explains why we perhaps feel sleepier and more fatigued at this time of the year. The darker days result in our bodies making more of the hormone melatonin which is charge of our sleepiness. The article suggests we need to get out into the fresh air and allow the little bit of daylight to penetrate our beings…do not wear shades, no matter how fashionable,as you need that light to be absorbed by your eyes (that’s my personal advice!). Sleep and exercise along with vitamin D are all necessary to get the balance right.
YOGA SURVIVAL FOR XMAS is also perfect for anyone who does not do yoga simply pop in a few stretches to your day a long with the other suggestions to eat well, walk, unplug and help others.
There is lots to be found in this edition on beautiful jewellery which I tend to admire from afar but never really wear as I spend much of my time covered in massage oils or draping my body into postures where injury or complete strangulation would result from a necklace, dangling earrings and fabulous bangles..go look and enjoy.
Food is always well represented and this is no exception with some lovely curry recipes.
Then, I always love whatever Denise Leicester writes and this article was the one that really resonated with me,
I heart Christmas turns around that feeling of stress and angst by slowing things down, doing less and ‘being less inclined to say yes to everything’. Denise talks of the energy of the heart and the need for a positive outlook which immediately impacts on the heart’s electromagnetic field. More and more research is being done into the workings of our amazing hearts so I shall leave you with the following words which come from Collective Evolution.
Did you know that the heart emits electromagnetic fields which can change according to emotions?
Did you know that the human heart has a magnetic field that can be measured up to several feet away from the human body?
Did you know that positive emotions create physiological benefits in your body?
Did you know that you can boost your immune system by conjuring up positive emotions?
Did you know that negative emotions can create nervous system chaos and that positive emotions do the complete opposite?
As always huge thanks to all who pass by my blog and feel free to leave a comment if you feel so inclined.
That which is sacred within me, honours that which is sacred within you, Namaste.
